Churches go online for 2010 - 26th Jan '10

People wanting to hear all the latest church news from Peasedown and Wellow can do so now without ever touching a church notice sheet again.

St John’s Church in Peasedown and St Julian’s Church in Wellow are pioneering a new weekly e-newsletter which any one – anywhere in the world – can subscribe to.

The new venture began at the end of 2009 to keep people updated of the activities of both churches and also to cut down on the amount of paper used every Sunday, therefore making a difference for the environment as well.

The e-newsletter is designed and sent out with the use of MailChimp, which is an online computer programme that can send messages instantly.

The Vicar in both Peasedown St John and Wellow is Revd Matthew Street. He thinks the venture is a great idea and likens it to similar marketing techniques used by businesses today. He said:

“For many years before entering the church ministry I worked in marketing and explored just how useful the internet is in communicating with the public and reaching out to different people.

Lots of people still find church buildings off putting and choose not to take part in church events on a Sunday, or any other day of the week. Therefore, instead of expecting people to come to church to hear all the latest news we’ve set up a new venture to send our news directly to people in their homes.”

The churches e-news bulletin is full of information about weekly events, diary dates and wider activities in the communities of Peasedown and Wellow.

To subscribe to the e-newsletter, people can email the church office on admin@ubpw.com

Matthew added:

“Our e-news is open to anyone to subscribe to, wherever they live.”
