Hinton Charterhouse gets spiritual - 15th Feb '10

Following on from the success of new cafe-style church meetings in Priston and Peasedown St John, Hinton Charterhouse is the next village in North East Somerset to experience a radical style of doing church.

Known as ‘Filling Stations’, these events are relaxed and informal meetings which seek to model a different style of Christian worship and experience.

Founded by Revd Richard Fothergill (pictured below), the new Hinton Charterhouse Filling Station is the fourth in a series of such initiatives.

Instead of meeting in a traditional church building, Filling Stations are held in village halls, restaurants and cafes. The Hinton Charterhouse Filling Station will be launched on Thursday 25th February in Tuggies Barn, Hinton Farm and meet thereafter on the last Thursday of the month.

Revd Fothergill, who as well as being the project’s Director is also Associate Vicar at St John’s Church in Peasedown and St Julian’s Church in Wellow. He said:

“In a culture more familiar with cafes than gothic church buildings, we are presenting the central core of our Christian faith in a manner, and unusual location, that will hopefully appeal to a lot of new people.

The new Filling Station meeting at Hinton Farm, which has an informal atmosphere, café style seating and where fresh ground coffee and hot muffins are served throughout, is a good example of how to express the Christian faith in a modern, enjoyable and accessible way.”

Filling Station meetings include modern worship, teaching and prayer ministry.

Richard added:

"A relationship with God is the most natural, inspiring and attractive thing imaginable. Anyone, anywhere can experience it through a simple faith is Jesus Christ!"

The new Hinton Charterhouse Filling Station will start at 7.30pm.
