Church shake up brings new Vicar for Foxcote and Shoscombe - 14/4/10
The villages of Foxcote and Shoscombe welcomed their new vicar this week.
Following the retirement of the Revd Kevin Tingay, changes have been made to the make-up of Church of England benefices in the Midsomer Norton Deanery.
The Revd Matthew Street, who for the last five years has led churches in Peasedown St John and Wellow, will now take the additional churches in Foxcote and Shoscombe under his leadership.
Last Tuesday night, members of the new churches welcomed Matthew into his role. He commented:
“It’s a great pleasure to now be able to serve these two new villages and work with existing church members.
There is a strong feeling of community spirit in the villages that I’d like to help build and develop.
I know that worshippers in Peasedown and Wellow are also looking forward to the new opportunities that lie ahead with all four churches now working together.”
The new benefice, which coincidently has four saint names all beginning with the letter ‘J’, will adopt the name ‘The St J’s Group’ and look at ‘Bridging the Gap’ as its theme throughout 2010.
Bob Goode, who is one of the Churchwardens in Foxcote and Shoscombe, and a former Headteacher at the local primary school said:
“We’re looking forward to working with Matthew, and the other congregations in Peasedown and Wellow.”
