Having fun in the jungle - 2nd September '10

One church in Peasedown St John decided to do something different during the summer holidays by turning itself into a jungle.

St John’s Church opened its doors for five days for this year’s Peasedown Churches Together Holiday Club with a ‘going wild’ theme.

Throughout the week primary school-aged children took part in crafts, games, activities and learnt some of the biblical stories about Jesus.

Organised by the St John’s Church Children’s Worker, Rob Bubyer, the action-packed week saw over 50 children attend. Rob said:

“One of the favourite activities of the week was called the Wellies of Doom where children had to put their feet into wellies filled with custard, baked beans and mushy peas. Children had lots of fun doing this.

We also watched film clips from Madagascar 2, took part in crafts like making animal masks, and decorating animal shaped biscuits."

At the end of the week the helpers, children and their parents enjoyed a BBQ.

Revd Matthew Street, who worked with Rob and other members of the team to organise the Holiday Club, said:

“I always enjoy having these children’s events at our church. Here at St John’s we are always keen to try new things that bridge the gap with the wider community and take the message of Christianity to those that haven’t heard it.

I’m already looking forward to next year’s Holiday Club.”
