'Back to Church Sunday'

On Sunday 25th September 2011, members of the St J's Group took part in 'Back to Church Sunday', where Christians all over the UK send special invitations to their friends and family – encouraging them to come along to church. St John's Peasedown, St Julian's Wellow, St Julian's Shoscombe and Soul Food took part in the event, which is now the largest single local-church invitational initiative in the world.  Revd Matthew Street, who leads the St J's Group, said: “Back to Church Sunday is based on the most simple step in Christian evangelism, that we should invite someone we know to something we love. For Christians, ‘church’ is an important part of our lives, and so we want to share it with other people.” To reach out to the wider community, St John’s Peasedown holds its Sunday afternoon Soul Food service in Peasedown Youth Centre. Soul Food is a contemporary family service with lively music, activities for children, and refreshments. Back to Church Sunday has grown hugely following its launch in Manchester in 2004.  “There is no set pattern as to what each church should do” said Revd Street, “as long as we ensure our services are welcoming and inclusive with something for everyone – which is what we strive to do in the St J's Group all year round.”
