David Cox - 50 years at St Johns
A surprise party was held on Sunday 29th November 2009 at a church in Peasedown St John to celebrate the 50th anniversary of one of its members.
Churchwarden David Cox first went to St John’s Church in 1959 to assist in playing the organ in the run up to Christmas.
David never intended to stay long. He said:
“At the time I was Assistant Organist at St Nicholas’ Radstock and was asked by Rev Hollinshead to come to Peasedown and help out for a few weeks before Christmas in 1959.
I was 15 years old and was made very welcome by everyone at St John's and my music was really appreciated. Rev Hollinshead and his wife asked me to stay on and I agreed to cover the post of Organist & Choirmaster for two more years.”
Fifty years later David is still involved with worship at the Church and is one of its most active members.
